History

Dufftown and District Pipe Band was established in 1949.  Initially an article appeared in the local newspaper (the Dufftown News) commenting on the amount of pipers there were in the district and suggesting it should be possible to form a pipe band.

The article was read by Mr George King, who resided in Cape Town, South Africa but who was a native of Dufftown.  After corresponding with the newspaper editor he gifted £750 to begin equipping a pipe band.

On the 17th August 1949 a meeting was held and a committee appointed.  Equipping the band proved costly and Mr King donated a further £750 in November 1949 and £1500 in April 1950.

After several months of practising, the band with around seventeen members made its first appearance in 1950 wearing the "number one" uniforms.  Currently Dufftown Pipe Band is the only band in the world to wear the Red Innes of Moray tartan.
